Wild Words & Wisdom from the Far East (1 Day Retreat)

Travel an hour east of the city (not too far east) to Nusqool to spend an immersive day retreat rooted in far east wisdom with Thu Nguyen and Anto Chan.

We’ll be:

  • Practicing Qi Gong and learning Traditional Chinese Medicine wisdom on living with the seasons with our recent shift into autumn (with Thu)

  • Expressive writing and poetry inspired by Zen monk practices of Haiku, Koans and Jisei (with Anto)

  • Visit the nearby Wu Tai Shan Buddhist Garden, recently opened in its inaugural year, it spans 500 acres and showcases Buddhist culture, Chinese ancient building techniques, traditional Chinese garden designs

What is included:

  • Warm traditional chinese soup (made by @TheChineseSoupLady), snacks and tea

  • spend the day inside/outside of our schoolhouse to reflect, share, be in nature

  • free time to work on your own writing projects

Cost: $88 + HST (We’ll carpool to the Buddhist Garden and they charge $20/car so we can split the costs. Food/tea/drinks are available there which aren’t included in these costs)

About Us

We teamed up after deep conversations and longing to create spaces that help us uncover the nuggets and wisdom of our Asian immigrant lived experiences and how incredibly proud we are to be the “black sheep” of our family who strayed into a path of creative expression, healing multigenerational trauma for ourselves and holding space for others. So here’s our first collabo in hopes to spend the day immersed in some ancient far east wisdom in an embodied way in community.

Anto Chan is a queer HK Chinese-Canadian spoken word performance artist, writer, facilitator, entrepreneur, producer, and caregiver. He is an expressive arts therapy student.

Thu Nguyen is a Vietnamese-Canadian somatic leadership coach, nervous system facilitator, serial entrepreneur, community builder. She is a student of Medical Qi Gong, Tai Chi and Vipassana Meditation.
